An extremely close relation to trance, and these days you'll often get Techno heavyweights slipping the odd trance classic or two into their sets.
For me, it's always been part of my box of tricks to slip a Techno track or two into the early stages of a set, I'm not just down with the cool kids currently!
Anyway, I thought it would be good to a thread where we could share our favourite Techno tracks and mixes - I'll set the ball running with this mix from Slam (who were responsible for the seminal 1993 track "Positive Education")

To me, I've found that techno slipped into a trance set towards the end is really awesome to hear. Since it builds tension so heavily, it's one of the best tools to use.

Which tracks are your favourite examples of this? This one is good no matter if you keep it at 128 or if you speed it up. It just builds so much tension: This one is also very nail biting when played at the right point in a set: This is kind of like electro techno, but if you listen to Armin's live ASOT 500 mix, it's in there kinda towards the end: This one is another nail biter:

Basically anything that builds tension within itself, as long as it has some consistency in tonal quality, or an obvious atonal quality, then it fits really well usually.

I've never used this in a trance set, but I have a feeling it would go well:

Here's one that's actually better at a slower BPM imo. I'd have to check what BPM my edit is, but I've heard Carl Cox play this in two of his sets and it's really sensational.

I agree. I love when techno is thrown into a more melodic set. And everything on 1605 is mint. really makes me miss the days when tech-trance was big. Maybe it will make a resurgence. Svd seems to be moving his label in a slightly techies direction, even though it's still mainly big room house driven.

As Carl Cox would say... 'Oh yes oh yes!' Techno was my first love until I discovered trance. In regards to how trance & techno are related, this article explains it very well: pulseradio.net/articles/2016/08/how-trance-is-making-a-legitimate-comeback IMO, the 2 genres are so tightly linked, original 'trance' was techno, as spun by very early Sven. Nina Kravitz is known for dropping trance into her sets (just look at her recent set in Melbourne where she has to justify her set!!). I saw Alan Fitzpatrick last week in Bristol for a Drumcode night (played one of the best techno sets I've ever heard, just 2 hours of banging, galloping beats) and finished his with Mike Push - Strange World. I was with my friend and we both looked at each other both in shock, awe and delight as we heard those infamous synths being brought in. The place went nuts:

I've been getting into techno a lot more lately. When I mix, I always like to move towards techno near the end of the set. There's so much flexibility in techno tracks these days, you can get a lot of good stuff going with even a slowed down or sped up techno track. Huge fan of SLAM myself. Been listening to their podcast almost exclusively for some time! Got a few recommendations for you all soundcloud.com/paragraph/slam-radio-213-i-hate-modelsStarts off so strong, goes deeper, then picks up near the end again. Maceo Plex has a very unique style of techno that i love too. Found this mix to be one of my favourites. soundcloud.com/avidmuzikfan/maceo-plex-live-the-peacock-society-paris-july-2016 Get's so good near the end when he plays his remix of triumph, and of course the pitched and slowed edit of Underworld - Born Slippy (1:45:00. Alan Fitzpatrick is so good as well. He's one of those genre bending artists who knows how to mix the best parts of classic rave, modern techno and a little bit of something else. soundcloud.com/17-steps/alan-fitzpatrick-where-haus-1A R T S record label has been releasing some insane stuff. Some of the trance fans here might be interested in Keith Carnal's latest release. A huge, angry sounding techno track that evolves into some proper trance during the breakdown. soundcloud.com/artsltd/sets/keith-carnal-illusion-arts023OFC Cirez D doing some damage as well. Probably a contender for my favourite track of 2016. soundcloud.com/eric-prydz/cirez-d-in-the-redsI'll stop, I have so much more to share but I need to get more work done!

Relistened to the album Floorplan - Victorious recently, and wow I slept on this album too hard this year. Banger after banger after banger. If you're looking for some feel good Detroit vibing techno, or even just want something that will make you get up and dance, this is the album you need in your life.

Lucky you. I'm dying to see those guys. An opener for Carl Craig played Growler and it fucking goes off in a club. They're one of the best techno acts out there atm imo

Anyone heading to Printworks you're in for a treat. One of the best venues I've been to and an amazing crowd as well, there for the right reason. The way the lights move in 3D can turn the place into an intimate club when they're low and just above your head or they then move back up to the ceiling to bring the warehouse feel back. The strobes and lasers are on another level. There's plenty of room to dance, not squashed like sardines. Everything just 'works', no queues at the bar, everything flows. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into the details. And the sound system speaks for itself, driving, thick and punchy
Adam Beyer tore the roof off, my friend summed it up when he shouted in my ear just over half way, describing it as relentless.

Seconded. Beyer @ Printworks was the best set/venue I've seen in years. Restored my love for clubbing tbh... His set went funky / tech house Hours 1-3, heavy and dark hours 4-6, then melodic smashers 6-8. Truly an incredible set. Not to mention the venue had mindblowing production, friendliest staff, perfect sound... that was a day to remember forever. EDIT: and back on topic, techno (90%) & classical (10%) are all I listen to in my free time been really loving Layton Giordani, Sam Paganini, Guy Mantzur lately..
