Few tracks capture the indie-electronic spirit that inspires Above & Beyond quite like New Order’s iconic single from 1983: ‘Blue Monday’.
One of the most recognisable riffs in electronic music, ‘Blue Monday’ was a platinum selling record in the U.K., inspiring a generation of producers - Jono, Tony and Paavo included - with its innovative sound design.
Debuted during Above & Beyond’s sold-out show at London’s Alexandra Palace in 2013, this full-throttle remake recreates the classic riff and drums on modern hardware. Until today, it’s been a closely guarded, electrifying dance floors from New York’s Madison Square Garden to Glastonbury Festival.
With Above & Beyond’s label, Anjunabeats, entering its twentieth year, the band’s audacious homage to one of club music’s biggest anthems drops today, Monday the 20th of January a.k.a. “Blue Monday”). How does it feel? Pretty good, if you ask us.

All I have to say is the remix is still better than the cover, solely due to the fact that you can’t beat the original vocals. Though, the bits of Alquimia in the cover are a really nice touch.

I think it’s a brilliant job from all of the team at Anjuna to get this out. Having to rework the full track from scratch to get it released is superb. Given its taking years to do shows the effort, and yet still some people are moaning they wanted the bootleg or the remix. Some folks are never happy!

So excited this is finally released! They did a great job with the vocals imo. Hard to believe that this song was originally set to be released back when we were all still on the Anjunaforum!

It is awesome and I think it’s great fan service, something the label seems to have been doing with previously “dead” tracks recently. I hope my post did not come across as moaning, because this version is nearly and unless you’re a total snob should more than sooth your itch.

Am I the only one who dislikes the track? Really weird one, it feels like it consist of several parts which doesn't fit to each other. The Alquimia part distracts from the rest of the track. It's not a mash-up, why did they decide to leave it?

I really like this and agree with what theboz says. We were never going to get the original, but this is pretty damn close. The parts of Alquima do it for me it feels like it consist of several parts which doesn't fit to each other. The Alquimia part distracts from the rest of the track. It's not a mash-up, why did they decide to leave it? I see where you're coming from on that first point. It's definitely got an EDMesque vibe to it, especially the drop. It's kind of Porcelain's older brother. The second point, my view is that they left the Alquima parts in as a nod to the original live mash up they do. It's a nice little addition, an easter egg. Almost as if to say 'we know we can't release the original, you know we can't release the original and this is our way of trying to keep a dusting of it in'.

I was very happy to hear this live when A&B played in Atlanta about a month back and it sounded amazing there! I haven't been listening to the official release as much as I thought I did but it's still a good track. I probably just overplayed it during ABGT 050
